Get back to the basics of video-games with Gamevy's The Link
You might be very familiar with overall games set on the dark outer space sky. You are probably also familiar with bright colored geometrical figures and symbols such as crosses, diamonds, circles, triangles and squares.
Simple games with this kind of concept have been very popular this year. Recently, famous casino software provider Thunderkick released Spectra, a video-pokie featuring a retro futuristic theme with a dark background and neon symbols.
Now, the novel company Gamevy decided to turn their attention to this concept providing us with The Link, a 3-reel, 3-row video pokie with only 8 paylines and one special feature.
The basics of pokie machines are apparently back. With hundreds of 5-reeled pokies out there, this one seems a little defying to the mainstream tendency, as well as reminiscent to the basic dynamics provided by classic fruity pokies.
The outlined figures are set on the grid, and the featured paylines consist on straight lines of either vertical, horizontal or diagonal configuration. Of course, given the reduced amount of paylines and the 3×3 grid, you need to get at least three symbols of a kind set on this given configuration in order to redeem your prizes.
There are multiple settings for the user to customize with this game. The bet size, as well as the total wins and balance, is shown on the selected currency of the player. It is customizable from a $/€1 value to as high as a $/€200 one.
The Auto Play option is also included, and to activate it you have to hold the Spin button located at the right side of the reels. Once you do this, you will be able to set both the amount of automatic spins you want as well as the bet size for them.
Like we said, there is only one special feature included in this game, and it is basically a Wild symbol represented by a yellow star. Like all other Wild symbols, this icon substitutes for others in order for you to redeem a winning payline.
What we loved
This pokie machine takes us back to the basic of pokies, both in terms of gameplay and volatility. Having played a lot of video pokies with multiple layers and dynamics, we almost forgot the excitement of getting three symbols of a kind on the reels.

We are also lovers of futuristic themes and aesthetics, so we loved this retro-ish twist and concept provided by Gamevy.
What we did not like
Of course, the simplicity of this pokie machine can be a disadvantage. If you are a modern player accustomed to multiple layers, 5-reels and a handful of special features, this one might get a little too boring.
The same goes with the concept. A lot of people are very fond of complex storylines and multiple dynamic pokies, so this kind of video-yet-classic pokies are just not their type.
But besides the simplicity of the overall game, we would've liked both a higher RTP (which is set at 93% for The Link pokie) and a lower volatility. After all, there is not much going on in this pokie, so we would've like for it to be a little more rewarding as a way to compensate for such a simple dynamic.
Worth playing?
The Link will definitely not be included among our favorite releases this year, but we consider it a good pokie nonetheless. The dynamic is quite simple and intuitive, and wins are just fair.
It is not a spectacular game, and fun is not precisely guaranteed, but it was a good experience to spin with a simple and basic gameplay, at least for a change.
